Hi! I’m Daniel Colón. I am a fourth year student within the major, minoring in Oceanography. I am currently a student manager at the Coffee House, an officer in the Knights Landing One Health Clinic (KLOHC), and a member of the Finno Laboratory. At KLOHC, I work alongside others to provide free clinic access to a low income community. My primary role is to help with medicine administration during clinics. The Finno Laboratory has given me the privilege of working on an ongoing project studying the genetic basis of diseases related to Vitamin E deficiency.

May 2022 ABI Alum Spotlight: Kylee Wong

As an Animal Biology alumna, I can look back on my experience with major satisfaction. Although I constantly went back and forth on whether or not I should change my major, I’m very happy that I chose to stay with the Animal Biology curriculum. Since graduating from UC Davis, I moved back home to the Bay Area and currently work full time as a Veterinary Assistant. I work with many animals and have learned how to practice Fear Free handling techniques.

April 2022 ABI Alum Spotlight: Allisen Peterson

I am originally from Chico, CA and I graduated from Davis in 2016 with a degree in Animal Biology. This major gave me all the freedom I needed to find what I was truly interested in. Like many others, I initially entered Davis thinking I would become a Veterinarian. However, with many more opportunities to explore, I saw the huge array of options we have. I have decided to become a Podiatrist and will start school and Midwestern University this Fall. The beauty of this major is it can prepare you for so many different paths you may take in life.

March 2022 Alum Spotlight: Ashley Bui

My name is Ashley Bui and I attended UC Davis in 2020 with a major in Animal Biology and a minor in Entomology. I absolutely loved my time in Davis as an Animal Biology major! While I was there, I researched arachnid phylogenetics and evolution under Dr. Jason Bond. I loved the amount of freedom and flexibility the major allowed me. I appreciated being able to take both upper-division entomology and genetics courses, both of which were essential in developing my skills as an insect systematist. Having the opportunity of working in a university lab and having Dr.

February 2022 ABI Student of the Month: Aeelin Beltran

I am Aeelin Beltran, a 3rd year Animal Biology student with a minor in Medical-Veterinary Entomology. The reason I chose this major is due to the ability to begin your research as an undergraduate student. I’m interested in becoming a research veterinarian along with working with companion animals and ths major is perfect! I enjoy how small our classes are and how we have the ability to choose our path! I just recently began my practicum working alongside my amazing mentor at the UC Davis Veterinary School.

February 2022 Alum Spotlight: Jade Cervantes

Hi everyone! My name is Jade and I graduated UC Davis in Spring 2021 with an Animal Biology Degree. When I went to UC Davis it showed me a lot of new experiences. I was able to meet new people, take classes out of my comfort zone, join clubs, and participated in some a great internships. During undergrad, I liked to stay busy, so on top of all my classes I decided to join Aggie Ambassadors, Field Day, the Picnic Day Board, and many more! College can get pretty stressful but joining things like clubs or fun classes can keep you sane and motivated.
