March 2023 ABI Student of the Month: Delanie Craighead

Hi! I am Delanie Craighead, and I am a fourth-year Animal Biology major and Medical Entomology minor. I've always loved animals, but learned in high school that my favorite are camelids! I currently work as a ranch hand for a veterinarian where I help take care of her animals, including alpacas, and work at the goat barn, where I used to be a resident. In the future, I want to work as a wildlife biologist or in a lab focusing on camelids.

Through the ABI major, I've been able to expand my interests and experience things I never would have been able to before. This program offers endless opportunities to try new things and an amazing staff to help you every step of the way. I'm currently finishing up my practicum project, which is a survey meant to help focus on funding and medical needs for camelid owners across the U.S. It has been really exciting getting to learn so much just based on the participants' responses, and I hope the results will be able to direct the future of camelids. Although I will be sad to leave Davis when I graduate in Fall of 2023, I am excited to continue learning and trying new things.
