Tiffany Tse | Class of '19
My name is Tiffany Tse and I just graduated as an Animal Biology major in June 2019. I am currently a first year veterinary student at UC Davis! Although I came into UC Davis already wanting to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, I wanted to keep my career options open and was drawn to the numerous post-grad career opportunities possible with a degree in ABI. I was also interested in the research component of the major and the flexibility of being able to choose many restrictive elective classes.
During my sophomore year, I started working with Dr. Pesavento and her lab at the vet school. I completed my ABI practicum project on the detection of feline Gammaherpesvirus in oronasal swabs and even got to present my research at the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Disease Conference in Portland. Besides research, I also worked as a Peer Advisor at the UCD Internship and Career Center and volunteered with the UCD Knights Landing One Health Clinic.
My advice for ABI majors are 1.) Do not be intimidated by the practicum project (there are lots of helpful resources available), 2.) Ask for help and use your resources (I was a regular at office hours and tutoring), 3.) Challenge yourself to new experiences!
